Cansiglio Forest

A great natural, historical and cultural heritage in the heart of Veneto. The Forest is also in the heart of each of us as a spiritual sanctuary where our deep soul meets with the Life.

The “Bosco del Reme” ranks second among the largest forest areas in Italy. The name tells of the past of the place: the doges chose the wood of this area as a raw material to obtain the oars of their royal ships. The beauty appears untouchable. A solemn purity that makes the human being small. Here there is such a perfection, a chromatic harmony, a set of sounds, smells and sensations.

The Cimbrian culture visible in the small villages and the signs of the Resistance are some clues to the historical facts that have accompanied this small unspoiled paradise over time.

The deer is the king of the Cansiglio, its majestic horns, the proud step, the trumpeting that becomes stronger during the mating season. Meeting him in the woods during an excursion will make the trip unforgettable. Those who do not have this luck can familiarize themselves with the local fauna in the Giovanni Zanardo Ecological Museum, a collection of fossils, traces and animal finds that together with the Giorgio Lorenzoni Botanical Garden celebrate biodiversity and balance between species.

You can go there walking, by mountain bike or on horseback are the ways through which to explore the green casket (or orange-red if you prefer the autumn period). In the winter months, the mild climate gives way to the cold winter typical of northern Italy, the Piano is tinged with white and becomes the theater for winter sports such as cross-country skiing. There are also several visits to the Giro d’Italia, the last in 2021. If you love to work hard on bike, you will go crazy when you do it surrounded by a similar landscape.

Moving north, the Alpago sits there in that beauty landascape. Located in the center of the crown of the Belluno Prealps, it lives in another small area of its own. Lake Santa Croce is its blue eye, a mirror of water ideal for sailing sports thanks to the wind guaranteed by the unique climatic conformation of the valley.

Resting between one hut and another, each peak can be reached via the Alta Via 7: Col Nudo, Vernàl, Messèr, Lite and Monte Cavallo. Proud “guardians” who, like the beeches of the forest, watch over so that this paradise continues to be such.
